What a solar community is and how it saves you money without panels

Aldea Team · 12 Feb 2026 · 5 min read

You hear more and more about solar communities, but what exactly are they? The idea is simple: instead of putting panels on your roof, you benefit from a shared solar installation that is close to you. You install nothing and, even so, part of that energy turns into savings on your bill.

How it works, step by step

A solar community is a photovoltaic installation —on a large roof or on nearby ground— that shares its output among several neighbours. We assign you a share and the energy your part generates is deducted from what you consume from the grid.

  • The sun on the neighbourhood roof produces energy.
  • You have an assigned share.
  • That share is subtracted from your bill, with no building work at home.

How much do you save?

It depends on the size of your share and your consumption, but most households notice a reduction from the very first bill. Best of all: there is no upfront investment and no maintenance on your part.

Who does it make sense for?

For anyone who rents, lives in a flat, or simply does not want building work: it is the easiest way to switch to solar energy. And if later you want to make the leap to self-consumption on your own roof, we will be there with you too.
